Privacy, plainly

The whole policy, in one line: this site collects nothing about you unless you hand it your email — and then it uses it for exactly one thing.

What is collected

Your email address, only if you subscribe. It is stored in this site’s own database, used solely to send you the letter, never sold, rented, or shared. Every letter includes a way out; you can also just reply and say “remove me” — a human reads the inbox.

The date and IP address you confirmed from. Subscribing sends you an email with a link, and nothing is ever sent to an address that does not click it. When you do, this site records when that happened and the IP address it came from. That pair is the record that you asked to be here — the thing that answers a mail provider who wants proof the list is consented to. It is kept for as long as you are subscribed, goes to nobody, and is used for nothing else. Leaving the list deletes it with the rest of your row.

What is not collected

No analytics trackers, no advertising pixels, no fingerprinting, no third-party scripts, and no tracking cookies. Your reading-lamp and reading-mode preferences are kept in your browser’s local storage — they never leave your device and are invisible to this site’s server.

The unavoidable plumbing

Like every web server, this one keeps short-lived technical logs (IP address, browser type, requested page) used only to keep the site fast and to rate-limit abuse. They are not used to identify or profile readers. A login cookie exists for exactly one person: the author, signing into the writing desk.

If this ever changes

If privacy-respecting, cookieless analytics are ever added (to learn which letters earn their minutes), this page will say so before it happens. The principle stands: the reader is the audience, never the product.
